Over the last six years, we have been piecing together our living area with new furniture and decor as we remodeled the house piece by piece. Here is what it looked like when we bought the house. Carpeted sunk-in living room, with a formal dining area and wall dividing it from the kitchen

Our very first project after closing on the house was opening the living room to the kitchen area. One week ago, this is where we were.

The ceiling had never been painted after the remodel, the walls had holes and patches from various things we have hung over the years, and it was time to replace the area rug. With 5 children and 2 dogs, new area rugs are always welcome. Likewise the wallpaper was a favorite for little hands to pick at the edges. A refresh was needed, so I made a plan and went to work....knowing very well that Eric would join and help once I got going.

We decided to paint the trim walls and ceiling all the same color, and in doing so, figured we should try spraying rather than rolling the paint. Prepping to spray the area was a BEAST! And we went through several rolls of tape, drape and floor coverings. If ever you are spraying an interior area of the house, DO NOT skip this step. Over spray will find its way onto everything that is not covered! We have proof of that too.

Benjamin Moore Simply White was the perfect color choice for our refreshed space. It is simple, clean and leans to the warmer side of white without looking yellow.

Once painted, we added new ledge shelves with additional picture frames. Added new curtains, area rug and media console after selling the previous giant, farmhouse style entertainment center pictured above. Other than that, we simply moved some other items from around the house and VIOLA! We have a refreshed living room!

I am hoping to add a new floor mirror against our former chalkboard wall. This one below is MAJORLY back ordered, but fits my vibe so well. How much patience do I actually have? We shall see.

I have done my best to link all items used below. While buying new items is great if you can, if nothing else, remember a can of paint can go a long way in refreshing any room in your home. Even if it's simply white. See what I did there. :)

  1. Hex Mosaic Tile - These are the backsplash tiles we have in our kitchen.

  2. Swivel Wood Adjustable Height Bar Stools - Our island stools. Full disclosure, we are hoping to sell these and get new ones.

  3. Ikea Frames - We added 10 additional frames to our wall!

  4. Ikea Shelves - We added 3 rows of 2 for a longer shelf look.

  5. Ikea Curtains -

  6. Floor Mirror - Its a yes from me.

  7. Poly & Bark Ottoman - we have had for a while and is still in great shape.

  8. Olive Velvet Arm Chair - cushions have seen better days but we are big people.

  9. Area Rug - Also purchased the kitchen runner and entry rug

  10. Sideboard - We had to drill holes for cables in the back as it is not intended as a media console.

  11. The BEST sofa ever - I should be a spokesperson for the Remington sofa. It's an investment, but so worth it!

  12. Sconces - There are varieties from All Modern and Home Depot. I have linked the Amazon ones we have.
